Video Summary
Hey, this is Jessica Fillmore. Thanks for watching this video. I will be talking to you about how to choose the perfect topic for your online course. Now, I have worked in different types of businesses, everything from eCommerce and online shops to doing things with marketing to a wellness businesses.
So I have experience in different types of businesses and I have found that the beauty in the e-learning industry, the online course industry is that you're able to separate your time from your money. So what that means is you're not trading dollars for hours. What I'm trying to say is that you're able to create a product, like an online course, and you can sell it again and again and again without having to recreate it. You can share it, so you can actually serve many people, instead of helping people one-on-one. Does that make sense? Okay. So this topic, of how to choose the perfect topic for your online course, I want to just hit on three main things.
The E learning and online course industry is projected to grow to I believe over $325 billion over the next few years. And what that means is this is a huge opportunity for people to share their knowledge, their expertise or their hobbies with someone else. And that is awesome, right? If you're able to create a course that can help generate extra income or side income or maybe you decide to do it full time, then that is an asset that you can have forever. You can sell it forever.
A few questions that people ask is this. Do I know enough on a topic or how do you know if you are qualified to teach an online course? There are a couple of things to look at. The first thing is number one, have you received the results for yourself? Have you achieved those results for yourself? You're showing other people what you did to get your results.
Or number two, can you get someone else results? Maybe you have a lot of knowledge on a topic that someone else is struggling with. So, if you can do those things, then yes you are qualified to teach a course. You don't need to be like a college professor or have 30 years of experience on a specific topic. You just need to know, or be a few steps ahead of someone who is struggling and doesn't have the knowledge that you have. Your course can be a solution for people who are struggling and have a pain point or maybe they just want to learn a skill.
Maybe they want to learn how to decorate cupcakes and they've never done it before and you can teach them how to do it in your course. Or, maybe you can teach someone how to knit or how to be a better DJ or how to grow their business. There's so many different types of topics that almost everything you can think of, there might be a need for a course and there's probably a demand for it.
You need to get clear on a few key things. The first one is this. What problem does your course solve? And really take some time to think about this. Like what is the outcome of your course? And number two, who is it for? Who would be willing to pay for that outcome or that course? Who needs that course? So really get clear on that. Who is it for, what outcome does it provide? And, you'll be on your way to creating the perfect topic for your online course, or at least narrowing it down, getting it started.
So, I would love to know is an online course something you've thought about? Have you created one before, but maybe you don't know what to do with it? Let me know. Comment below. I would love to hear from you because I was recently helping some clients with creating and launching their online course and just laying out some frameworks with them and it was a lot of fun. So if online courses are a topic that interests you, I would love to know.
